Alberta Government plans raising alcohol-tobacco taxes
The Alberta Government is planning to raise taxes on alcohol and tobacco, in a bid to encourage a healthier lifestyle and at the same time going in for an increase in revenue for the government.
My best friend’s wife, who works with Oracle Advertising, doesn’t seem to believe in the healthcare angle of this decision and has this to say - “Well, wouldn’t it be better to ban these things altogether if healthcare is the concern. This would just add to the government’s revenue as those addicted to such things won’t quit in the name of taxes”.

Well, the government believes that the reasonable people in Alberta would take cue and go for a cut in boozing, smoking etc, which would do good to the entire society. At the same time, there are business people who are apprehensive that this may affect business.
Let’s wait and see. The decision is yet to be taken…
