The royal visit of the Duke and Duchess has set off an increase in the visitors from the UK. The value of the publicity generated by the royal tour is put at $2 million in China alone. The rallying Canadian dollar and the strong oil and gas sector of Alberta has been providing the much needed impetus to business tourism in Alberta. Canada was granted "approved destination status" in China, which allows Alberta to market itself in the booming emerging Chinese economy, which will see a marked rise in the number of Chinese tourists, who form the fastest-growing demographics of Alberta's share of tourist outside the key markets of Canadians, Americans and the British.
